Houston Amateur Golf Association Player of the Year

Points for Player of the Year run from one Club Championship to the next. Points for the Player of the Year start accumulating in December each year and will continue through the Club Championship in November of the following year. The Player of the Year will win a spot in the following year's Shell Houston Pro-Am as the HAGA representative.

What Are Player of the Year Points?

For each event throughout the year, competitors will accumulate points that count towards the annual Player of the Year award at the end of the season as follows:

• 1 point for participation
• 3 points for first place in each handicapped flight
• 2 points for second place in each handicapped flight
• 1 point for third place in each handicapped flight
• 1 point for low net
• 1 point for low gross

Additionally,

• Ties get the same number of points (i.e. if two people tie for first in their flight they both get 3 points).
• A score must be posted to get a participation point. A participation point will be awarded for a disqualification but not a withdrawal. Exceptions would be considered for withdrawals during play for unusual circumstances such as injury, family emergency, etc.
• Special flighters are only eligible for participation points and low gross points.
• Points are awarded for participation in the Match Play Championship. Each player gets one point for every match played. If a player wins as a result of the other player defaulting by not playing, the winner will get one participation point. The loser will not get a point.
• For multi-day events like The Masters or The Club Championship participation points are awarded for each day played. Also, since the Player of the Year award is determined on an event by event basis, points are also awarded each day for first, second and third in each flight, low net and low gross. No points are awarded for the overall places, low net or low gross. This daily calculation is only for accumulating points not for determining The Masters winner or the Club Champion.
