2006 Shell Houston Open Pro-Am

Each year, the Houston Amateur Golf Association pays for a spot in one of the SHO Pro-Ams and this is given to our Player of The Year (see this section of the website for more details). Greg Gerson was our 2005 Player of The Year and the following is his account of the April 17, 2006 event:

"As the Player of the Year for 2005, I played in the Monday Pro-Am of the Shell Houston Open.  It was on the tournament course which held the PGA tournament later in the week.  As a result it was set up quite tough with very fast greens and high rough. It was also interesting to play a course with all the grandstands, tents and gallery ropes.

Another thing that stood out for me was the ultra first class way the Pro-Am was set up and how we were treated.  Every group had two fore caddies in "Master's style" white coveralls. These men did everything for us but hit the ball. In addition there were many helpful volunteers and tournament hosts.

The gift pack was great: $400.00 Gore-Tex rainsuit, two nice shirts, a leather travel bag, a tote bag, a special blanket, one dozen Pro-V 1x balls, and a very cool money clip, everything with the Shell Houston Open logo. We also got a picture with our group, the tour pro we played with (Tag Ridings) and an autographed SHO golf flag from our pro.

Playing in the Shell Houston Open Pro-Am was a great experience and well worth all the time and effort it took to win the HAGA Player of the Year."
