A Gaggle of HAGA Trivia

1. Years ago – a present Life Member of the HAGA – scored a “Hole-in-One” during a Tournament in Alexandria, Louisiana – He accepted a prize of $200.00 CASH – Weeks later he was advised by the USGA that he was no longer an Amateur – his status had become a “NON-AMATEUR”.
   
   Who was that HAGA golfer? How did he get his AMATEUR STANDING back?


2. The year was 1969 – The National Public Links Championship was held in Erie, Pennsylvania – one of the Qualifiers from a City in that State was required by the USGA Official, Mr. P.J. Boatwright to play his second Qualifying Round as a Single Player with only a USGA official to accompany him as a “Marker” (Scorer).
   
   That player is a present member and a former member of the HAGA BOARD – Who was it? How long did it take to play that 18 hole round?


3. The H.A.G.A. “LOGO” depicts a golfer pulling a golf cart down the fairway – smoking a cigar – with a happy smile on his face! The “LOGO” model was the first President of the H.A.G.A. (1952).
   
   Who was the model? It was not Roy Breedlove – he was never President.


4. The H.A.G.A. has honored a number of members who were called to join “that great Golf course in the sky” by designating a MEMORIAL EVENT in their name.
   
   Who was the first MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT “HONOREE” – an HAGA member and Past Present? He was a low handicapper – had an Arnie Palmer charisma with everyone – even when functioning as Tournament Director.


5. President Paul O’Keefe and the 1966 H.A.G.A. agreed as a Public Relations project to stage the USGA MEN’S NATIONAL PUBLIC LINKS Sectional Qualifying 36 Hole Event for the year 1967 in Houston.
   
   The H.A.G.A. BOARD named a member as USGA SECTIONAL QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR in 1967. He was approved by the USGA to serve as USGA COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN for Houston Sectional Qualifying Public Links events.
   
   The H.A.G.A. joined with the HOUSON GOLF ASSOCIATION in 1981 in staging the USGA NATIONAL PUBLIC LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE Houston, Texas BEAR CREEK MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE.
   
   Who was the HAGA member first named as CHAIRMAN of the Houston USGA Sectional Qualifying Committee? How many years did he serve in that capacity? Which HAGA Past President now represents USGA as P-L Sectional Qualifying Committee Chairman?
